Windows Installation:

  1. After the download is complete, start the installation by double-clicking the install file.
  2. To allow the installer to run, a message will be shown “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your devices”, select Yes to continue.
  3. Follow the default installation prompts.
  4. After the installation completed successfully, select Finish.
  5. Sign into your Edge account with your email address and select Continue.
  6. The Edge Monitor login will be displayed.
  7. Enter the default password from the activation email and select Login.
  8. The activation process will begin and prepare the software to run for the first time.
  9. On completion, the Edge Monitor will open and after a few minutes the backup will automatically start.
  10. The initial job is a full backup and will take some time to complete.
  11. The Edge Monitor will track the backup progress.
  12. After the task is finished, the Edge Monitor will show the time and date of the latest backup.
  13. Subsequent backups are automated and complete faster since they include only new data.

 

MacOS Installation:

  1. After the download is complete, start the installation by double-clicking the install file.
  2. The Install Metallic wizard will start and guide you through the installation:
  • Introduction – Well come to the Metallic Installer. You will be guide through the steps necessary to install this software, select Continue.
  • Destination Select – Select the destination, select Continue.
  • Installation Type – Standard Installation, select Install.
  • To allow the installer to run you will be prompted to enter your password and select Install Software and OK.
  • Installation – The installation will commence and take a few minutes to complete.
  • The installation will take a few minutes to complete.
  • After the installation completed successfully, select Close.
  1. The Edge Monitor will be displayed to register your laptop.
  2. Enter your email address and select Continue.
  3. Enter the default password from the activation email you received and select Login.
  4. The activation process will begin and prepare the software to run for the first time.
  5. On activation the Activation Complete message will be displayed.
  6. A prompt will be displayed to enable Full Disk Access for backups to work.
  7. From System Preferences > Security & Privacy, select Privacy > Full Disk Access
  8. Depending on the version of MacOS, either drag and dop the Metallic icon or enable the application cvlaunchd.
  9. Follow the guide and select Done.
  10. On completion, the Edge Monitor will open and after a few minutes the backup will automatically start.
  11. The initial job is a full backup and will take some time to complete.
  12. The Edge Monitor will track the backup progress.
  13. After the task is finished, the Edge Monitor will show the time and date of the latest backup.
  14. Subsequent backups are automated and complete faster since they include only new data.

How to perform a

restore

  1. Open the Edge Monitor and select Restore Files.
  2. Login to the Console with your email address and password.
  3. From the Restore Files window, you can browse or search for the folder(s) or file(s) you want to restore.
  4. From the right pane, select the Folder(s) or File(s) and select Restore.
  5. From the Restore options windows, you can restore the data to the original location or to an alternate location. 
  • To restore the data to the original location, select Restore.
  • To restore the data to an alternate location, unselecting the Restore to original folder option.
  • From the Destination path, enter the path or select the folder to browse for the path to restore, select Save and Restore
  1. A message will be display showing the Job started successfully with the job ID. To monitor the restore job, select View job details.
  2. You will receive an email notification after the restore job completed.

FAQ's

From the Edge Monitor select Settings, enter your email address, select Continue. Select the Forgot Password option and Reset button. You will receive an email with the instructions to set a new password.

Backups are automated and run every 4 hours or the next time the Edge Monitor starts.

If the backup job gets interrupted due to the loss of network connectivity or power, it will automatically retry and resume from where it stopped.

Yes, open the Edge Monitor and select Backup Now.

  • From the Edge Monitor select Setting and enter your credentials. 
  • In the console, select Laptops > Settings > Overview and scroll to the Backup content section. From here you will be able to edit the backup content.
